OF THE GUIDELINES FOR PARTICIPATION BY CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS IN OAS ACTIVITIES [CP/RES. 759 (1217/99)] [ Population Action International]ANALYSIS OF THE APPLICATION BY POPULATION ACTION INTERNATIONAL TO BE REGISTERED WITH THE OAS This document was prepared by the Office of Relations with Civil Society of the Office of the Assistant Secretary General, to provide information to the member states of the Organization of American States (OAS) on the civil society organization Population Action International The information contained in this report responds to resolution CP/RES.759 (1217/99), "Guidelines for the Participation of Civil Society Organizations in OAS Activities," and includes a summary and a list of the various elements and documentation submitted by Population Action International in compliance with the provisions of the resolution.

1. Background Population Action International (PAI) is a non-profit organization, established on December 29, 1965, with a mission to advance universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights

(SRHR) through advocacy, partnerships and funding of changemakers. Its mission also includes promoting policy and funding solutions that make the delivery of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care possible. PAI also provides technical support to subregional and national organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean to address gaps in SRH services, helping to strengthen the capacities of civil society in the matter. PAI is financed through contributions from grants, donations, and voluntary contributions.

PAI submitted its application to the OAS on March 19, 2025.

3. Primary areas of activity and contributions that could be of interest to the OAS PAI focuses on the contribution of design and implementation of public policies on SRHR that benefit women and youth across the region. To that end, the foundation develops advocacy programs,- 2strengthens health systems accountability, promotes comprehensive sexual health education, and disseminates information on sexual and reproductive rights for vulnerable communities across Latin America and the Caribbean. Over the past year, the PAI has taken part in key forums such as the Conference on Population and Development and Courageous Conversations, using these platforms to underscore the ongoing importance of advocating for SRHR. PAI believes that its experience in championing policies that enable women to exercise their reproductive rights and eliminate barriers to the supplies and services they need, could be very useful to the OAS.

4. Identification of potential areas of collaboration with the OAS Population Action International would like to work with the OAS in the following areas: Support to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights through the delivery and collection of information for use in various reports.

Collaborating with the Inter-American Commission of Women to ensure cooperation, collaboration, and assistance for women in SRHR matters. Following up on implementation of mandates from Summits of the Americas and resolutions of the OAS General Assembly and Permanent Council; and Promoting participation by civil society organizations in activities organized by the OAS and registration of civil society organizations in the OAS roster.
