APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION PRESENTED PURSUANT TO ITEM 6

OF THE GUIDELINES FOR PARTICIPATION BY CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS IN OAS ACTIVITIES [CP/RES. 759 (1217/99)] [ Asociación de Cubanos Afrodescendientes, Afrocaribeños y Afrohispanos en España (AFROHISPANOS)]ANALYSIS OF THE APPLICATION BY ASOCIACIÓN DE CUBANOS AFRODESCENDIENTES, AFROCARIBEÑOS Y AFROHISPANOS TO BE REGISTERED WITH THE OAS This document was prepared by the Office of Relations with Civil Society of the Office of the Assistant Secretary General to provide information to the member states of the Organization of American States (OAS) on the civil society organization Asociación de Cubanos Afrodescendientes, Afrocaribeños y Afrohispanos en España (AFROHISPANOS). The information contained in this report is provided pursuant to resolution CP/RES. 759 (1217/99), “Guidelines for the Participation of Civil Society Organizations in OAS Activities.” This document includes a summary and a list of data and documentation presented by AFROHISPANOS in accordance with the aforementioned Guidelines.

1. Background AFROHISPANOS is a non-profit organization founded in Madrid, Spain, on November 13, 2008, with the mission of promoting and disseminating democratic values among Afro-descendant communities and fostering respect for human rights, non-discrimination, tolerance, and multicultural

and intercultural coexistence grounded in respect for differences. AFROHISPANOS seeks to design, implement, support, and promote development cooperation projects with public and private institutions and other associations aimed at the integration of Afrodescendant communities in the fields of education, culture, politics, the economy, science, health, sports, and social services, in order to advance initiatives and actions that promote social development and full respect for human rights. AFROHISPANOS mainly obtains financing through contributions from the members of its board of directors, as well as voluntary donations from its members. AFROHISPANOS submitted its application to the OAS on January 10, 2025.

Primary areas of activity and contributions that could be of interest to the OAS AFROHISPANOS works to promote, defend, and strengthen the human rights of people of African descent by advancing awareness-raising, education, training, research, and cooperation initiatives that contribute to inclusion, democratic coexistence, and the construction of more just and peaceful societies. Through conferences, development projects, campaigns, and spaces for participation, it promotes the strengthening of civil society and the visibility of ethnic minorities, aligning its technical capacities and work with the principles and objectives of the inter-American

system and the Organization of American States in the areas of human rights, equality, democratic governance, and citizen participation.

4. Identification of potential areas of collaboration with the OAS Asociación de Cubanos Afrodescendientes, Afrocaribeños y Afrohispanos en España proposes to collaborate with the OAS in the following areas: Promoting the work of the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development through awarenessraising, education, and training programs on human rights and democratic coexistence aimed at Afrodescendant populations and other ethnic minorities.

Promoting the work of the Department of Access to Rights to advance access to and restoration of rights for Afro-descendant populations, migrants, and other minorities. Contributing to the Secretariat for Legal Affairs through studies, surveys, and policy recommendations on non-discrimination, equality, and access to justice, generating evidence for regulatory frameworks and institutional practices. Follow-up on the implementation of mandates of the Summits of the Americas, the OAS General Assembly, and Permanent Council; and Promoting participation by civil society organizations in activities organized by the OAS, as well as registration of civil society organizations in the OAS roster.
