MANAGEMENT AND CIVIL SOCIETY PARTICIPATION IN OAS ACTIVITIES Summary of the special meeting held on March 19, 20261 / DIALOGUE ON STRENGTHENING CIVIL SOCIETY PARTICIPATION IN PREPARATION FOR THE FIFTY-SIXTH REGULAR SESSION OF THE OAS GENERAL ASSEMBLY Time: 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Place: Simón Bolívar Room The regular meeting of the Committee was presided over by its chair, Ambassador Mayerlyn Cordero Díaz, Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the OAS.

A quorum was established with the presence of representatives of Argentina, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Lucia, United States, and Uruguay. 1. Adoption of the order of business The order of business of the meeting, document CP/CISC-1255/26 rev. 2, was adopted by the Committee without amendment.

2. Introduction The chair of the Committee welcomed the participants to the meeting and referred to the importance of civil society participation in the processes of the Organization. The remarks of the chair can be accessed here.

Ambassador Laura Gil, Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, then referred to the topic

under consideration, noting, among other aspects, the important role of civil society in multilateralism and the need to redesign mechanisms for civil society participation to promote equal access for civil society organizations to OAS activities. Presentation of the host country of the fifty-sixth regular session of the OAS General Assembly The Committee received a presentation from the host country of the fifty-sixth regular session of the OAS General Assembly, delivered by Ambassador Ana Irene Delgado, Permanent Representative of Panama. 4. 7. Conclusions Ms. Paulina Corominas, Chief of the Office of Relations with Civil Society of the Office of the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, presented the conclusions of the meeting, which can be accessed here.

8. Closing remarks The chair of the Committee expressed her gratitude to all those who had participated in the meeting and emphasized that the meeting had reaffirmed that civil society participation is not a peripheral element of the OAS mission, but a constituent part of it. The diversity of voices heard at the meeting on a range of issues, including equal rights, security, human rights, indigenous peoples, and humanitarian action, reflected the breadth and depth of the commitment of civil society to interAmerican values.

After thanking everyone for their participation, she adjourned the meeting of the Committee.
