REQUESTING THE INCLUSION OF THE ITEM “NEW PROPOSED MECHANISM FOR SYSTEMATIZING INFORMATION UNDER THE INTER-AMERICAN DEMOCRATIC CHARTER” ON THE ORDER OF BUSINESS OF AN UPCOMING REGULAR MEETING

Excellency:

I have the honor to address Your Excellency in reference to the mandate contained in resolution AG/RES. 3029 (LIV-O/24), “Strengthening Democracy,” section i. “Follow-up on the Inter-American Democratic Charter,” operative paragraph 7, concerning a propose d mechanism integrating and systematizing qualitative and quantitative information and relevant actions, programs, and activities carried out by the Organization related to the six chapters of the Inter -American Democratic Charter, in order to enable the m ember states to examine and evaluate these actions, as well as to consult and cooperate on an ongoing basis on shared priorities.

In that regard, I am pleased to advise that on January 29, 2026, the Committee on Juridical and Political Affairs (CAJP) concluded its consideration of the proposal prepared and presented by the Secretariat for Strengthening Democracy. Accordingly, the proposed mechanism is attached hereto for the consideration and approval of the member states within the framework of the Permanent Council,

I respectfully request, Excellency, that this item be included on the agenda of an upcoming regular meeting of the Permanent Council, in order to ensure the fulfillment of the mandate, and remain at your disposal regarding the date you may determine for th e relevant presentation at that meeting, together with the Secretary for Strengthening Democracy, Ambassador Sebastián Kraljevich.
