LA FABRICACIÓN Y EL TRÁFICO ILÍCITOS DE ARMAS DE FUEGO

En el marco del Día Interamericano para Contrarrestar la Fabricación y el Tráfico Ilícitos de Armas de Fuego (5 de abril), Antigua y Barbuda, Belize, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Granada, Jamaica, México, Panamá, Perú, República Dominicana, San Cristóbal y Nieves, Santa Lucía y Uruguay reafirman su firme compromiso con la construcción de la paz, la seguridad regional y el fortalecimiento del Estado de derecho.

Esta fecha representa una oportunidad para reflexionar sobre los graves impactos que el tráfico ilícito de armas y municiones tiene en nuestras sociedades, particularmente en el incremento de la violencia, la delincuencia organizada y la pérdida de vidas humanas.

Reconocemos que la proliferación ilegal de armas de fuego constituye un desafío transnacional que requiere respuestas coordinadas, integrales y sostenidas entre los países del hemisferio.

La fabricación y el tráfico ilícitos de armas no solo alimentan la inseguridad, sino que también debilitan las instituciones, obstaculizan el desarrollo y afectan de manera desproporcionada a las comunidades más vulnerables. Reconocemos, además, la importa ncia de hacer frente a las fuentes de las armas de fuego ilícitas y a las vulnerabilidades específicas de los Estados de Centroamérica y Caribe.

Reiteramos nuestro compromiso con los instrumentos internacionales y regionales orientados a prevenir, combatir y erradicar estas prácticas ilícitas, incluida la Convención Interamericana contra la Fabricación y el Tráfico Ilícitos de Armas de Fuego, Munic iones, Explosivos y otros materiales relacionados (CIFTA).

Asimismo, hacemos un llamado a fortalecer los mecanismos de cooperación internacional, el intercambio de información y las acciones conjuntas para rastrear, controlar y reducir el flujo ilegal de armas.

La construcción de un hemisferio más seguro y en paz es una tarea compartida, por lo que reiteramos la disposición para seguir trabajando de manera decidida y coordinada en la lucha contra la fabricación y el tráfico ilícito de armas de fuego.- 2JOINT DECLARATION

On the occasion of the Inter-American Day against Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms (5th April), Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Grenada, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Uruguay reaffirm their firm commitment to peacebuilding, regional security, and the strengthening of the rule of law.

This date provides an opportunity to reflect on the serious impacts that illicit arms and ammunitions trafficking has on our societies, particularly in terms of increased violence, organized crime, and the loss of human life.

We recognize that the illegal proliferation of firearms constitutes a transnational challenge that requires coordinated, comprehensive, and sustained responses among the countries of the hemisphere.

The illicit manufacture and trafficking of firearms not only fuel insecurity but also weaken institutions, hinder development, and disproportionately affect the most vulnerable communities. We further recognize the importance of addressing the sources of i llicit firearms and the particular vulnerabilities of Central American and Caribbean States.

We reiterate our commitment to international and regional instruments aimed at preventing, combating, and eradicating these illicit practices, including the Inter-American Convention against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunit ion, Explosives, and Other Related Materials (CIFTA).

We also call for the strengthening of international cooperation mechanisms, information exchange, and joint actions to track, control, and reduce the illegal flow of weapons.

On this Inter-American Day, we call on all countries in the region to share responsibility for addressing the structural causes of illicit arms trafficking and strengthening institutional capacities to effectively combat this phenomenon.

Building a safer and more peaceful hemisphere is a shared responsibility; therefore, we reiterate our commitment to continue working in a determined and coordinated manner in the fight against the illicit manufacture and trafficking of firearms.
