NOTICE
The General Secretariat presents its compliments to the Permanent Missions to the OAS, and with instructions of the Secretariat Pro Tempore of the Consultative Committee of the Inter -American Convention against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives and Other Related Materials (CIFTA), wishes to refer to the efforts of the Consultative Committee in promoting ongoing dialogue among the national points of contact, to combat and eradicate the illicit trafficking and illicit manufacturing of firearms in the hemisphere.
In this regard, and within the framework of the decisions adopted in AG/RES. 2460/09 (XXXIXO/09) “ Inter-American Convention against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives and Other Related Materials (CIFTA) ”, the Technical Secretariat respectfully requests the cooperation of the permanent missions in providing the following information:
- The National Entity or Single Point of Contact for purposes of cooperation and information exchange, as stipulated in Article XIV of the Convention.
- The Central National Authority acting for purposes of mutual legal assistance, as stipulated in Article XVII of the Convention.
- The Operational Point of Contact for firearms, ammunition, and explosives tracing matters, to establish a secure and confidential network for the exchange of information among the Member States, as stipulated in the Tlatelolco Commitment adopted during the Second Conference of
Article XVII of the Convention.
- The Operational Point of Contact for firearms, ammunition, and explosives tracing matters, to establish a secure and confidential network for the exchange of information among the Member States, as stipulated in the Tlatelolco Commitment adopted during the Second Conference of the States Parties (Mexico DF, February,20-21, 2008).The contact details and names of the designated points of contact are kindly requested to be provided to the Technical Secretariat through the Department against Transnational Organized Crime and the Department of Public Security of the OAS (mbejos@oas.org y pdeluca@oas.org ) before May 11, 2026.
