The Permanent Mission of the Argentine Republic to the Organization of American States (OAS) presents its compliments to the Chair of the Permanent Council of the OAS and has the pleasure to refer to the coming election to fill the current vacancy on the Board of Directors of the Justice Studies Center of the Americas (JSCA), in accordance with a mandate from the General Assembly to the Permanent Council (AG/doc.5937/26).

In that regard, the Permanent Mission has the honor to advise that the Government of Argentina is pleased to nominate Dr. Daniel Petrone for membership of the Board of Directors of the JSCA for the 2027–2029 term.

The curriculum vitae of Dr. Petrone is attached, with the request that the Chair of the Permanent Council kindly distribute it to the distinguished delegations of the member states.

Daniel Antonio Petrone graduated in law from the University of Buenos Aires School of Law in December 1995. He completed the postgraduate program in Criminal Law at the University of Palermo School of Law in December 1999. He also completed the Judicial Modernization and Continuing Education Program offered by the Carlos III University of Madrid, Spain, in collaboration with the University of Buenos Aires. In 2013, he earned a Master of Laws degree from the University of Palermo.

He served in Argentina’s criminal justice system as a judicial employee and official from 1992 to 2003. In February 2003, he was appointed judge of Oral Criminal Court No. 8 of Lomas de Zamora. He served as a National Judge for Economic Crimes from 2008 to 2011 and as a judge of Federal Oral Criminal Court No. 2 of San Martín from 2011 to 2018. Since July 2018, he has served as a judge of the Federal Criminal Court of Cassation. He served as President of that Court in 2025.

He has also served as Head of Practical Training in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at the University of Buenos Aires; graduate professor at the University of Buenos Aires; Adjunct Professor of Criminal Law I at the National University of Lomas de Zamora; Full Professor of Criminal Procedure at the National University of Lomas de Zamora; instructor of the Criminal Law Workshop: Oral Litigation at the University of Palermo; instructor responsible for the postgraduate course on Cybercrime at the University of Palermo; Associate Professor of Criminal Law I at the Catholic

Procedure at the National University of Lomas de Zamora; instructor of the Criminal Law Workshop: Oral Litigation at the University of Palermo; instructor responsible for the postgraduate course on Cybercrime at the University of Palermo; Associate Professor of Criminal Law I at the Catholic University of Santiago del Estero; and graduate professor at the Argentine Catholic University. In addition, he has also served as an instructor in several oral advocacy courses organized by the nonprofit organization Unidos por la Justicia.

He has been a speaker at numerous events on cybercrime and digital evidence organized by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT) of the U.S. Department of Justice.

He participated in the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program and in the Carolina Foundation’s visitor program, having previously been awarded a Carolina Foundation fellowship. He also participated as an expert in the Octopus Interface Conference on Cybercrime, held under the auspices of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg in 2010 and 2016.

In February 2014, he was invited as an expert to the working meeting on cybercrime held at the headquarters of the OAS General Secretariat in Washington, D.C.

He is the author of numerous articles on criminal law; editor of Resolución de casos penales; co-author of Temas de derecho penal económico and Ley de ejecución penal; and author of Cárceles sanas y limpias, published by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Unidos por la Justicia, and Prueba informática (Editorial Didot, 2014).

By election of the OAS General Assembly, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the JSCA from 2017 to 2021. He served as president of that body in 2019 and 2020, and as vice president in 2018 and 2021.
