ACTIVITY REPORT OF THE TECHNICAL ADVISORY GROUP (TAG) CHAIR ON
WATERWAYS, INLAND AND CRUISE PORTS
June 2023 - May 2026 (Approved during the Fourth Plenary Session on Tuesday, June 9)
I. General objective of the TAG:
The TAG on Waterways, Inland and Cruise Ports seeks to promote the development of logistical efficiency, foreign trade and sustainable tourism in the region.
In this regard, understanding the waterways and inland ports as the great engine of inter-regional and global trade, knowing their importance for regional connectivity, will continue working for the achievement of an integrated port system.
The TAG will focus on compliance with responsible tourism practices necessary to achieve the reactivation of the industry and, along with it, the benefits it brings to the region.
II. Members of the TAG: Chairman: National Agency of Ports and Navigation (ANPYN), Argentina

1. In support of activities to strengthen technical capacities and in continuity with the Action Plan, update surveys and/or databases on their focus topics.
- Name of the activity: Database of experts on waterways, inland and cruise ports.
- Objective: Generate a national database containing the contact information of experts on waterways, inland and cruise ports.
This database will be available for consultation by the National Port Authorities before June 2026.
- Responsible Institutions: Chair of the TAG and the CIP
Secretariat.
- Expected Results: Facilitate a national network of contacts on the TAG matters which will be made available to the entire CIP
Community.
2. Organize, in the next three (3) years and with the support of the CIP Secretariat, at least one hemispheric conference or seminar on the topics of competence of the
TAG.
- Name of the activity : Fifth Hemispheric Conference on
Waterways, Inland and Cruise Ports.
- Tentative date: April 28-29, 2026.
- Objective: To provide an international platform for public and private port dialogue in which decision makers from governments, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society share successful practices in river transport, emphasizing the economic benefits of an integrated and sustainable port system.
- Responsible Institutions: Chair of the TAG and the CIP Secretariat.v. Results: An international forum was provided to discuss Waterways practices in the region, touching on sustainability issues. The conference was held virtually on the mornings of
sustainable port system.

The conference was held virtually on the mornings of April 28 and 29, 2026 and was attended by more than 160 port personnel from 24 CIP -OAS member states: Antigua and
Barbuda, Argentina, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Paraguay, Saint Kitts and Nevis. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinid ad and Tobago, United States, Uruguay and Venezuela.
3. Activities in support of the work of the Secretariat in the context of the CIP Scholarship and Capacity Building Program (e.g. workshops, online courses, master's degrees, local and/or regional seminars, etc.)
As Chair of the TAG on Waterways, Inland and Cruise Ports, Argentina, in collaboration with the CIP Secretariat, committed to the port development of the region, planned an ambitious calendar of online courses managed by the National Port Training Center (CENCAPOR) of the Port of Buenos Aires.
From June 2023 to December 2025, 9 courses were held training 157 port officials from 15 Member States.

4. Name of the activity: Online course on Protocol, Etiquette and Netiquette in the workplace.
- Date and place: April 19th to May 10th, 2024, CENCAPOR Virtual

- Results: 7 scholarships were awarded to port officials from 5 CIP

- Date and place: July 19th to the 28th, 2023, CENCAPOR Virtual

- Results: 7 scholarships were awarded to port officials from 2 CIP
Member States.
4. Identify and compile materials (e.g., articles, best practices, processes, or services) relevant to the TAG topics for digital and/or print dissemination.
- Name of the activity: 2nd edition of the TAG Information Bulletin:
Waterways, Inland and Cruise Ports.

- Objective: To generate a space for meeting and networking at both national and international levels with the aim of disseminating thework carried out by ports at a hemispheric level and sharing the actions that are being developed in the TAG’s scope of work.

- Expected results: Increase visibility on the different practices, policies and activities that are being implemented by the National Port Authorities around waterways, inland ports and cruise ports.
